Beijing Normal University

Beijing Normal University (BNU), founded in 1902, is one of the universities that receive key supports from the state in Beijing. In recent years, with the support of the “211 projects” and “985 projects”, BNU has entered a new stage of development and has made remarkable progress in the areas of subject development, talents training, faculty construction, and scientific research and so on. This has been the foundation for BNU to become a comprehensive university with special characteristics and world-renowned research.

Now, BNU has 2100 full time faculty members and more than 23800 full-time students, including over 9200 undergraduate students, 12800 graduate students and around 1714 long-term international students. It includes 1 Faculty, 23 Colleges and Schools, 2 Departments and 37 Institutes.

BNU ranks among the top universities in China. Signing an agreement with Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal Government, BNU became the 10th university on the list to get special support from the Chinese Government, aiming to be a world prestigious university. Now, it has 108 doctoral degree programs, 153 master degree programs, 60 bachelor degree programs and 25 post-doctoral programs. Beijing Normal University had 16 national key disciplines, including 5 general disciplines and 11 specialized disciplines. Education, Psychology, Chinese History, Geography and Ecology – ranked first in China. And 17 disciplines rank Top 10 in China.

BNU has cooperative agreements with 300 institutions from over 30 countries. There are over 50 student exchange partners in Asia, Europe and North America. There are joint establishment of Confucius Institutes with five universities and colleges: the University of Manchester of UK,San Francisco State University in US, the University of Oklahomain USA, University de Sherbrooke & Dawson College of Canada, Aalborg University, Denmark, University of Macerata, (Italy) and the College of William and Mary (US).

BNU has started to recruit international students since 1965; and it has accumulated abundant experience in Chinese language program and other major-related subjects for foreigners. Now, there are around 2000 students from 110 countries studying in BNU, 73% of which are for degree study. BNU set up English-taught International Master degree programs in 7 majors: social policy, comparative education, world economy, environmental science, high education, law, geography, 1 English-taught International Doctoral degree programs in 1 majors: comparative education, English-taught credit-course programs for non-degree study students.
